Welcome to fall at the mercantile!

Put the finishing touches to the shop tonight, then snapped a slew of pictures (till the batteries died in my camera!) Above is my newest Jack-O-Lantern- his base is an old oil lamp base and there's a crow perched on the handle.

Love how this display turned out- very prim, very fall, very pear-fect (sorry, couldn't resist as my big pear is the right-side anchor in this vignette!)
Don't forget to look up (and down under) when you shop, for you never know what I've tucked here and there for you to discover!
Lots to pick from of this table!
Another stab at a decent photo of my tiny witch mouse, but still no luck!
 Another table of seasonal treasures.
Another view of the same table.
Wish I had a spot for this little cutie in my house; I think he's just so neat- especially with my little crocks with old-looking labels!
Wouldn't this whole display look wonderful in a pantry or buttery?
Finally found a couple old nail kegs to do the labels on- this one says "Vittles & Provisions."

All this and more can be found at Fawn Run Farm Mercantile this weekend and Monday/ Labor Day.
Come on out to the farm!

Sore feet, happy heart!

Worked in the shop till midnight and I'm hungry and tired, but very pleased with how things look so far. Didn't get quite done with the displays, so I'll have to hustle to get finished up tomorrow. I had the shop so torn up, I had to turn down a customer who called to see if we were open- told her we'd be open Saturday, Sunday and Monday, but I couldn't offer to let her come today. Tried to take a photo of my tiny witch mouse in a cauldron, but I couldn't get a clear enough shot to post on the web- sorry- guess you'll just have to come to the mercantile this weekend to see her!

A Corny Crow!

Got a prototype crow with cocktail fork feet made. He's holding a little garland of shelled corn while sporting a neck tie of corn husks. Now, if only I could push the "repeat" button and have about a dozen of them ready for the shop opening on Saturday! Need to spend the day in the shop tomorrow revamping the displays and moving some cabinets around. I'll add finishing touches by sprinkling fall leaves, corn husks, and lots of gourds into the displays.
Come see the works of my hands!!!

A Fond Adieu to Prairie Trail Farm

My friend Renee Troyer Campbell brought new stock for this coming weekend’s shop opening. Renee has been the owner/ herbalist of Prairie Trail Farm in Goshen, Indiana for many years. Her herbal dip, bread, cookie, and soup mixes, herbal sugars, honey, and heavenly scented sachets and potpourris have been  customer favorites at my past shows and now in my shop, too. I’m sorry to report that Renee and her husband are in the process of selling their farm and business in order to retire to the west coast. Today Renee told me that her last event will be the Johnny Appleseed show in Ft. Wayne next month and after that, I will be receiving any remaining inventory to share with our customers here in the mercantile. I’ll miss Renee and wish her well as she turns this page in her (herb) book of life!

A Simple Life magazine~ Fall 2012

If you're not already excited for fall's arrival, you soon will be after thumbing through the current issue of A Simple Life magazine. They're available in my booth in "The Loft" at Coachman Antique Mall, downtown La Porte, IN, plus I'll have a few in the mercantile this coming weekend, September 1, 2 & 3. Pick up your copy while they last!

A Simple Sunday

After a quick run to deliver an order this afternoon, I made a "slight"  side trip up to Sawyer, Michigan to leave some rack cards and check out a dry sink I'd seen last year. Didn't get the sink, but found a really neat, early side chair that I adopted. You'll see it this coming weekend if you come to the mercantile opening. After finishing up another tall sunflower, this time on a masher (no photo to show yet,) I wanted to get these pear gourds painted to dry overnight. Here they are in progress. They'll look good AND smell good with their dusting of spices! Won't they look wonderful gathered into an old wooden bowl or granite-ware colander?

When you Witch upon a Star!

Got a lot more done today, though didn't get photos to share yet- just one of my little stump witch with her twiggy broom and witch's brew bottle around her neck.
Can't wait for you to see all the new goods next week at the mercantile!

New creations.

Pulled these old chairs out of the spare bedroom (OK, it's really a junk, storage room now,) washed them up and reinvented them into decorative porch sitters! The pads are hand- stitched/ appliqued,  and have lots of personality. Priced at $49.99 each, they will be offered at Fawn Run Farm Mercantile's next opening (September 1, 2, & 3!)
Here's my new funky fall bird with corn husk wings. He's holding a teeny, tiny gourd and he's perched on some kind of old clamp or vise. (Should have asked hubby for the proper terminology!)

Didn't get photos yet of the rest of my day's work, but thought I was doing well considering the nagging migraine I was dealing with all day!
Looking forward to doing some rearranging/ re-merchandising in the shop tomorrow.
Over and out!

Here we go!

I really have no idea what I'm doing here, but everyone keeps saying, "get a blog," so here I go! Thought this might be another way to reach out to other folk art and primitive lovers and give them a look at the great offerings awaiting them here at the farm. I've been a folk artist for nearly 30 years and have been crafting since my childhood days. For the past 20 years I hosted the Prairie Pride Folk Art shows here in the Rolling Prairie, Indiana area - the last 9 of those years, the shows were held here at the farm. Last December, I retired the shows and now have my own shop. Fawn Run Farm Mercantile is open the first weekend of every month through December. The next opening will be on September 1 & 2 and we'll also be open on Monday/ Labor Day, September 3. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Central time (Chicago time)
I'm also open by appointment, so give me a call if another day or time is convenient for you!
My ads can be found in the following magazines: A Simple Life , A Primitive Place, Mercantile Gatherings, and a listing in Folk Magazine. fawnrunfarmprimitives.com
Take a pleasant drive into Galena Township, just north of Rolling Prairie, Indiana and turn in to our driveway. You'll probably be greeted by the cooing songs of our resident blue birds. Walk through the towering pergola and you may see the humming birds sipping nectar from the trumpet vines. The fragrance of the passion vine will stop you in your tracks if the beauty of the blossoms don't. The sound of water trickling in the rustic pitcher pump fountain will soothe your approach to the barn/ shop porch.
Look up when you enter the shop and you'll see the bucket lights with pie/cake tin ceiling plates. Inside, the shop is filled with everything I love and would put in my own home if only it were big enough! Primitives are my favorite, so they make up the bulk of goods, though you'll also find a few other genres covered. Besides my own handcrafted folk art (and that of my bff Jill Boniface), make-dos, antiques and collectibles, and revamped furniture, we carry lines of scented candles, rugs, lighting, bath & body products, and many one-of-a-kind treasures.

Guess that's enough to whet your whistle for today. Just "come on out to the farm!"
